Photo or Video First? A Working Rule for Local Brands

Jul 18, 2026 1 min read

Most local brands ask us the same first question: photo or video? The honest answer is a rule, not a preference.

The rule

If people need to trust you before buying, lead with video. Restaurants, gyms, clinics, and services sell atmosphere and competence, and thirty seconds of real footage does what fifty photos cannot. If people need to evaluate you, lead with photography. Products, menus, rooms, and portfolios are decided item by item, and crisp stills carry that weight on your site and profiles.

Then close the loop

Whichever you start with, the second format follows within a quarter. Photos feed ads and listings, video feeds social and your homepage, and together they compound: the same shoot day can often produce both if it is planned that way from the start.

Unsure which side of the rule you are on? Ask us for a free audit and we will map it against your actual channels.
